🌑 New Moon Creativity Ritual
The new moon is a doorway—an invitation to begin again. It’s a time to cast magic for desires and increase to bring into your life what you desire. Tonight we cleanse, release, and open ourselves to creative flow. This spell is a jumping-off point for you to personalize with scents, music, and energies meaningful to you.
Preparing Your Space
Before you enter the waters, bring harmony to the spaces that will hold you. First, tend to your bathing place. Remove any dirt or clutter that will distract you and any traces of heaviness. Let it feel like a sanctuary. If your bathroom feels unsettled, use the alternative version in an outdoor space.
Next, prepare the place where your creativity will flow afterwards. Clear away distractions and unfinished work. Make it a vessel ready to hold the energy you will soon call down, so when you emerge, the space is ready for any inspiration.
Gathering What You Will Need block.
Bring together what calls to you:
-
Candles in any colors that stir your spirit. White for spirit, green for growth, gold or silver for money, are common choices
-
A coin, symbol of your life force invested in creation
-
A container to brew your creative potion and hold it after the bath
-
A herb, spice, or scent: lavender, basil, mint, rosemary, cinnamon, or whatever your heart leans toward. If using loose herbs instead of oils, you can bind them in a cloth.
-
Epsom salts or a teaspoon of salt to energize the magic
-
A way to play music to guide you into trance. I use my phone resting on a dry washcloth on the tub’s edge. I’ve included links to music customized to this ritual, but if you have a different heritage you may want to choose something else. For this meditation phase, stay away from any lyrics that will distract you and look for trance music.
Energize Your Ritual Space
Set your candles near the bath and light them. Let their glow soften the edges of the world. Dim the lights, or let flame alone be your compass.
Place a coin into the water, along with any gems or moonstones that have been bathed in moonlight.
Fill your tub with warm water. Infuse the bath with your chosen scent. If using essential oil, allow only a drop or two.
Cast Your Circle & Invoke Your Guides
Cast Your Circle
When ready, lock the door behind you — or protect your sanctuary in another way.
Step into the water. Slowly, raise your hand and trace a circle in the air clockwise — your circle of protection, drawn in silence.
Invoke Your Guides
Invite the ones who walk with you — your deities, ancestors, guides, or the elements themselves. Speak their names, or simply open your heart.
Release/Trance
Begin your music:
Relax into the bath, letting your eyes close halfway and breathing deeply.
Let its rhythm cradle you.
Sink into the bath, but do not submerge fully yet.
Breathe deep. Breathe soft. Let yourself slip into the quiet edges of trance.
Use this trance to remember all your creative acts and obstacles from the last few weeks and release them into the water around you. When it drains away, those energies will drain away too.
Offer up the burdens you no longer wish to carry — the harsh inner critic, the disappointments, the tangled priorities. When the moment feels right, immerse yourself fully. Let the waters carry away what is old, making space for what is new.
Intention
Say aloud your desires, then listen. The answers may come as a word, an image, a shiver on your skin. Ask to be shown what truly stirs you now, beyond old stories.
Charge your Creative Potion
Prepare your potion with fresh water — from the tap is fine, or moon water if you have it. Add a pinch of the scent from your bath, or a single drop of oil. Stir clockise or close and shake your container.
Ask your spirit guides to bless and consecrate it.
“Infuse this potion with my creative will. As tides return my truth fulfill”
Whisper in your own word your creative intention into the water. When you feel it take hold continue to shake or stir as you visualize what it feels like to be in creative flow and charge your intention with visual images over several minutes. You may wish to let this music guide you as you charge it:
Open the Circle
Offer thanks — to the moon above, the spirits who joined you, and yourself for stepping into the ritual.
Draw a circle counterclockwise in the air gently releasing the circle you cast. When you unlock the door, your ritual is complete.
After the Ritual
Keep your Creative Mist nearby. Each time you sit down to create, sprinkle it into the air or over your workspace. Let it call back the magic of this night and renew your flow.
Alternatives for showers or outdoors
Prepare your potion in its container ahead of time.
Use a bucket filled with warm water in place of the bathtub and create your circle by walking a perimeter. Also, a yoga mat or towel would be helpful so that during the trance you can sit or lay comfortably. At the climax of your intention instead of dunking, take your bucket of warm water and pour it over yourself.
